Sir,

I was surprised to have a set of boules confiscated at Marseille airport (Ann Treneman’s Notebook, Feb 9, and letter, Feb 11). When I expressed my surprise, the official pointed to a sign showing that guns, knives and boules were among the forbidden items. I cannot believe there are many other airports that stipulate such a restriction.
