Greatest Wimbledon Champion

Sir,

I nominate William Renshaw as the greatest Wimbledon gentlemen’s singles champion (Sport, Apr 29, and letter, Apr 30). Renshaw won seven championships, which has been bettered only by Roger Federer. Also, he is the only player to win six consecutive titles (1881-86). Renshaw’s victories contribute to the 37 titles won by British gentlemen, which exceeds those of any other nationality.
